SGAC welcomes new Regional Coordinator for Africa

SGAC is pleased to announce the results for the 2010 African Elections,  89 % of NPoC voted

Out of those candidates have received:

  • Prospery Simpemba (Zambia) - 50% of votes
  • Etim Offiong (Nigeria) - 38% of votes
  • Yussif Mumin (Ghana) - 12% of votes

 

Based on the results of these 2010 elections SGAC is pleased to announce that Prospery C. Simpemba will serve as the Regional Coordinator (RC) for Africa together with the current RC, Hubert F. Kum.

Prospery C. Simpemba has been involved with Space Generation since 2003. He became SGAC National Point of Contact for Zambia in December 2008, a position he has held until his election to Africa Regional Coordinator in 2010. He holds a Master of Science degree in Physics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics both from the University of Zambia. He is presently a Physics lecturer at the Copperbelt University in Kitwe, Zambia. Alongside other responsibilities, Prospery is serving as Single Point of Contact for Zambia for the IYA2009 and Beyond with the International Astronomical Union. He has in the passed coordinated various events and projects which include but not limited to World Space Week, Yuri’s Night, Cassini Scientist for a Day Essay contest, space science and astronomy workshops to name but a few. The new role of RC for Africa puts him much more at the centre of space science and astronomy development in the region.

He has participated in high level scientific conferences, workshops and seminars. At national level, he has participated in policy formulation for the energy sector (2008-2030 National Energy strategy for Zambia’s vision 2030) and occupational safety at the workplace for the Mine Safety Department of the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development (2006). He has saved as a Metrologist for the Zambia Bureau of Standards for monitoring and formulation of measurement standards (2005-2007).
