SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.

SGAC is proud to present the SGAC January 2014 Member of the Month: Beza Tesfaye (Ethiopia)

Beza TesfayeBeza has a Bsc. Degree in Global Studies and International Relation and Advance Diploma in computer science. Currently, she is a post graduate student of Computer Science at HiLCoE school of Computer Science and Technology Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She has a great passion for space science, Astronomy and Space related technologies.

Beza has been an active member of the Ethiopian Space Science Society since 2004, actively participating in space science outreach events and education programs in her country. She has also organized events like World Space Week and Yuri’s Night World space party.

She joined SGAC in 2010 and became NPoC of Ethiopia. Since then, she has been actively working and participating in her country space related activities. She was part of the SGC 2013 organizing team and worked as Logistic coordinator. In 2013, she received the SGAC Leadership award to attend SGC 2013 in Beijing, China. At the congress, she participated in SGAC Earth Observation working group.

Benjamin Kraetzig, NPoC Germany, nominated Beza:
I recognized the strong educational activities and enthusiastic volunteering efforts of Beza Tesfaye, NPoC Ethiopia. She engages students and teachers, visits classes and tries to connect and promote the space science opportunities in Ethiopia. I think she would be a great choice for Member of the Month.

Here is Beza's reaction:
Wow! I am honored to be selected as member of the month. It is a great pleasure and experience working with all SGAC members. Since I have been a member of SGAC I have learned and still learning many valuable knowledge and skills that helps me to develop personally and professionally. Thank you SGAC for giving me the best opportunity to network with students and professionals from all over the world. I am looking forward to work closely with all SGAC members in the future to great successes. Thank you.

Andrea Jaime, SGAC Executive Director:
Beza Tesfaye from Ethiopia has shown a great dedication to the organisation from the very first moment. She had already joined the organisation few years ago; already showing her great leadership skills and hardworking enthusiasm, but it was during the orgnaisation of the Space Generation Congress in Beijing, China, that she really fully showed her commitment to the organisation. Her contribution definitely helped make the SGC a great success. After the SGC, she has stayed committed to the organisation by increasing the space activities in Ethiopia, and working hard on the SGC Final Report. Beza is a really good advocate of space education and the value of volunteer work.

Chris Vasko, SGAC Co-Chair:
Beza is a shining example that passion, a positive attitude and a smile can be contagious and go a long way to motivate people around you. Congratulations, Beza!
