SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.
SGAC is proud to present the SGAC September 2013 Member of the Month: Chris Vasko (Austria)
Christopher was born in Vienna, Austria. His strong interest in space related topics began early on and led him to study Physics at the Vienna University of Technology. At university he gradually got more involved in space and research from a scientific perspective. During his graduate course participated as an engineer in various national space related outreach/educational projects, developing a taste for communicating science. During the last years of his Master, he worked as an intern at a small privately held Austrian company assisting in developing a novel plasma engine for space applications. After his thesis, Christopher held an internship position at the European Space Policy Institute, the SGAC Vienna office and worked as scientific advisor for an international think-tank based in Germany. Christopher is currently completing his PhD in Applied Physics at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. He has been an active in SGAC since 2009 as intern to the Vienna office, web editor, National Point of Contact for Austria and most recently as the Treasurer and co-chair of SGAC.
Chris was nominated anonymously:
Chris Vasko has been holding two very high and demanding positions within the organisation at the same time during the last few months: Chair and Treasurer of the organisation. His dedication to the organisation is exceptional, not only for the time he is investing in SGAC, but also for his professionalism. He is always able to place himself in a very objective way and always works towards the benefit of the whole organisation and its members. The new treasurer will be selected very soon, but right now, the MoM of September is very well deserved for him; the preparations of the SGC involve a lot of treasurer work as well as lot of Chair responsibilities.
Here is Chris' reaction:
Thank you SpaceGen! I am very pleased with my nomination as MoM and would like to thank the active members of SGAC for trusting and supporting me through the busy last few months. As Chair, I am proud to see what we achieved as a multinational team. The outstanding success of the Space Generation Congress 2013 in Beijing and our participation in the IAC 2013, with over 40 papers presented by SGAC members, would not have been possible if we would not hold together and cooperate so efficiently. As individual, I am proud to be member of our dynamic, growing organisation. Thank you!
From SGAC Chair, CJ Nwosa:
Chris Vasko has been an excellent addition to the Executive team since he assumed the position of Treasurer, a portfolio he was still responsible for even after being elected co-chair. His diligent attitude and selfless service towards the organisation have led to outstanding contributions and I'm sure I speak for SGAC's leadership when I say "We are proud to have him on the team and have no doubt that the organisation is in safe hands under his watch!"
