SGAC is proud to present the SGAC August 2014 Member of the Month: Yusuke Muraki (Regional Coordinator for the Asia Pacific Region)

Yusuke Muraki

Yusuke Muraki is an engineer at Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). After working in the International Space Station (ISS) program at JAXA for seven years, he is now seconded to Asian Development Bank (ADB), which is a regional development bank to support developing countries in Asia and the Pacific to achieve poverty reduction and economic growth.  He has been playing a leading role in introducing satellite applications to the new field, which is sustainable development of developing countries, as the first and only staff in charge of space technology.

Yusuke earned his Master of Engineering in mechanical engineering from Hokkaido University, Japan in 2005. He contributed to the successful space shuttle missions to attach Japanese Kibo module to ISS and initial operation as a flight controller and engaged in development of Kibo’s spare equipment. In ADB, he has conceptualized and implemented many projects applying satellite technology in developing countries in collaboration with space agencies and user organizations from non-space sectors.

He has shared his knowledge and experience with international young people community by being an active member of the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) since 2003, where he has now been serving as Regional Coordinator of Asia Pacific Region. He is now working as the event manager of Asia-Pacific Regional Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW) to be held in Yokohama, Japan on November 29 and 30 in conjunction with Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF).

Zihua Zhu (China), nominated Yusuke, here is her quote:
I would like to nominate Yusuke as this month's 'Member of the Month'. Yusuke has dedicated himself to expanding the influence of SGAC in the Asia-Pacific region. You can always see the enthusiasm and professionalism in him about this voluntary position, particularly in the preparation of the upcoming event AP-SGW, which is the first regional workshop SGAC has ever held. With the kick-off of the organising committee last week, I believe Yusuke's leadership will continue to be an asset for this project.

Here is Yusuke's reaction:
I’m honored to be selected as the August Member of the Month. I became a member of SGAC in 2003, SGC in Bremen. So, it’s been more than 10 years. I really enjoyed work in SGAC and learned a lot from it. I would like to contribute more through my work as the Asia-Pacific regional coordinator, participation in SGC Toronto and the 1st edition of AP-SGW.

Chris Vasko, SGAC Chair:
I am very pleased seeing Yusuke being recognized as SGAC's Member of the Month. Yusuke has been with our organisation for a long time and is part of the core of volunteers that drive SGAC. In his recent role as Regional Coordinator for the Asia Pacific Region he has shown a lot of initiative and leadership, and we are glad to see the activities coming together nicely. He and his fellow RC Suresh have been very active recently, building their team and always busy making connections in the Asia Pacific region. This nomination is not only a recognition but also a big thank you, Yusuke. Your motivation and passion for space are exemplary, and we are proud that to call you part of our team!
