SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.

SGAC is proud to present the SGAC April 2014 Member of the Month: Michael Kretzenbacher (Out-going PR & Communications Lead)Michael Kretzenbacher

Michael Kretzenbacher is a systems engineer at Aerospace Concepts in Adelaide, Australia. In 2013, Michael completed a double degree at Monash University consisting of a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in History, and a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering. He spent the first half of 2013 at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Bremen, Germany where he worked on his bachelors thesis on the applicability of Systems Modelling Language (SysML) based Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for the MASCOT asteroid landing system. Michael has been involved with the Space Generation Advisory Council since 2011, serving as the Public Relations and Communications Co-Lead from 2011 to 2014. Michael has had a lifelong passion for space and anything that flies.

Cynthia Chen (Australia) Out-going PR & Communications Lead, nominated Michael, here is her quote:
Michael (endearingly known as Kretz) became closely involved with the SGAC Executive Committee after attending his first SGC in 2011 in Cape Town, South Africa. As an undergraduate studying full-time, he embraced his new role as PR & Communications Co-Lead with gusto, setting up a global communications campaign that helped the organisation reach out to as many communities and networks as possible. Michael worked very diligently - albeit quietly in the background - was dedicated to his role, and always strived to adhere to members' needs. This is to acknowledge all his hard work over the past couple of years during his term as PR & Comms Co-Lead, and here's to wishing him all the best in years to come!

Here is Michael's reaction:
I am deeply honoured to be selected as member of the month for April 2014. Becoming active within SGAC has been one of the best decisions I ever made. My involvement with SGAC has led to exciting career opportunities and has allowed me to make many new friends from around the world who share my passion for space. I greatly enjoyed my time as PR and Communications Co-Lead and hope to be involved with the SGAC Executive council again in future.

Chris Vasko, SGAC Co-Chair:
Michael has been a very active member of our PR&Comms team. He was also assisting in the organisation of SGC 2012 in Naples, volunteering wherever help was needed. Always with a smile, a professional attitude and a great sense of humor (I think we all remember the international nights during the past SGCs), Michael has always been a reliable part of the team. I am happy he is being recognised as MoM! Congrats Michael!

Andrea Jaime, SGAC Executive Director:
Michael Kretzenbacher has shown a high level of professionalism in his duties as PR&Communications lead. Together with Cynthia, he worked very hard to integrate the new trends, aka social media, into the SGAC, while still respecting the internationalism and cultural differences within the members of the organisation. Michael did an extraordinary job, coordinating with all the NPoCs of SGAC, on gathering a database of key organisations in each country to which SGAC information should be communicated, having by then a huge network of universities, institutes, industry and media all around the world. Michael not only stepped up as lead of the PR&Comm of SGAC; but has also been very participative in all the discussions and ready to help and guide his colleagues and sharing his expertise during his participation as delegates in the past Space Generation Congresses. Congratulations Michael, well deserved!
