SGAC is seeking volunteers to join our team as Local Events Coordinator. The Local Events Coordinator will be in charge of overseeing the development of different national-level events by our National Points of Contact (NPoCs), and act as the focal point connecting the different team members of SGAC with these events. S/he will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on SGAC activities in different regions. This position offers challenging, rewarding, and professional skill-building experiences. The Local Events Coordinator duties are as follows:
Work closely with the Regional Coordinators and NPoCs to initiate local events
Review of proposals for local events
Provide support for fundraising of local events
Connect local events with the PR, web and other executive office teams
Make sure all local events are of similar high quality
Document local events and create a knowledge base for future NPoCs and RCs
- Quick email response time
- Experience with project management and task scheduling
- Attention to detail
- Knowledge of current trends in the space sector and a general understanding of technical, legal and policy aspects of space activities
- Familiarity with the SGAC mission and its objectives
- Customer service mentality
- Prior experience with organizing events and proposal writing
- Experience with SGAC (either teams or attending an SGAC event)
The Local Events Coordinator will be in charge of supporting the Regional Coordinators and NPoCs for the successful implementation of local events. S/he will work closely with the Regional Events Coordinator, and will have access to information on previous events at SGAC. At peak times, the Regional and Local Event Coordinators will collaborate to make sure all events are a success.
The Local Events Coordinator will work under the supervision of the SGAC Executive Director and Operations Manager. S/he will sit on the SGAC Executive Council (as an appointed member) and will also sit on the SGAC Strategic Partnerships Team (Ex Officio).
This is an appointed volunteer position. The appointment will be for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal for additional 3 consecutive years. The appointment will include a 2 month probationary period.
Estimated time commitment: On average 2-5 hours per week, depending on time of the year.

Active members of SGAC teams are considered for nomination for SGAC scholarships and awards. They may also attend one SGAC event per year for free.
