SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.
SGAC is proud to present the SGAC October 2013 Member of the Month: Zihua Zhu (China)
Zihua (Nicholas) Zhu is originally from China and about to start his final year of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at University of Adelaide(Australia) in March 2014. He has been active and dedicated to engage in extracurricular activities and competitions in the field of aeronautics and robotics to develop solid leadership and practical skills. Zihua established a robotics club at the university in his second academic year and had taken a leading role as the president of the club for a year to support cross-disciplinary students for extraordinary performance in extracurricular activities in the field of robotics. By joining the Conference Organising Committee of Australian Youth Aerospace Association in 2012, Zihua was awarded a great opportunity to act as the program coordinator of Aerospace Futures 2013, an annual national conference celebrating the future generation of Australian Aerospace. One of his highlights this year was being part of the organising committee of Space Generation Congress as Logistics Co-coordinator and successfully pulled the conference off with a group of incredibly amazing people from SGAC. With highly recognition from his peer colleagues and supervisors, Zihua was awarded with this year's SGAC Young Leadership Award.
Andrea Jaime, Space Generation Congress Manager, nominated Zihua:
Zihua Zhu (China) has worked extremely hard for the preparation of the Space Generation Congress 2013 in China. Despite his actual residence, Australia, he has been able to work closely with local organisations to ensure great logistics prior to the event. He is a new face to the organisation, but he understood very fast the responsabilities and vision of SGAC. He was able to work in a very professional manner at all times, helping specially with language barriers in China, and being available at all times for SGC delegates and the team. We are sure he will have a great future in the space sector, and we feel very honored to have him on our organisation. Congratulations Zihua for your great job!
Here is Zihua's reaction:
I'm very thrilled to hear the news of my nomination as the MoM. I would like to take this chance to acknowledge my appreciation to SGAC. It was my privilege to work with such a group of amazing people at this year's Space Generation Congress in Beijing. As the co-logistics coordinator of the congress, all those experiences were new to me, and some tasks were challenging. I wouldn't pull it together without the support from the A-team and everyone else who support the cause of SpaceGen. I am looking forward to working more closely with SGAC in the future and to further contribute to the space sector. Thank you all!
Chris Vasko, Co-Chair Quote:
Zihua surprised me with his motivation and his readiness to help out whenever needed - i am glad he was nominated! As part of our organizing team, he successfully managed to be around whenever he was needed, never shy to help or to smile. Given the tight schedule and the big load on the shoulders of our native Chinese speakers, this is no easy task. Thanks Zihua for your patience, your language lessons and congrats!
