SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals.
SGAC is proud to present the SGAC February 2013 Member of the Month: Reinhard Tlustos (Austria)
Reinhard was born and raised in Vienna, Austria. He is currently studying for Bachelor degrees in Physics at the Vienna University of Technology and Astronomy at the University of Vienna. From an early age, he has been fascinated by space and astronomy, and has helped in outreach activities as a member of a local astronomy club. During his studies, he became an active volunteer of the Austrian Space Forum (ÖWF) where he participated in various national space-related outreach and educational projects, as well as the recent Mars Analogue Science Mission to the Rio Tinto desert. He also presented papers about this mission at the IAC 2011. Reinhard has also played an active part in a recent Mars simulation hosted by ÖWF, MARS2013. During this programme, he has held the roles of Flight Director Assistant and communications officer in the Mission Support Centre located in Innsbruck, Austria. Besides space, Reinhard enjoys practicing Jiu Jitsu, a martial art in which he holds a black belt and has competed successfully in both national and international championships.
Christopher Vasko (SGAC Treasurer) nominated Reinhard
"I would like to nominate Reinhard Tlustos (Austria). He worked tirelessly as part of the Space Generation Congress 2012 Technical Team, with an outstanding motivation and efficiency. Albeit the conditions, Reinhard was always friendly, eager to help and readily available when needed. I perceived him as an essential part of the team, and hope that he will continue to share his passions with us."
Here is Reinhard's reaction:
"Thank you for this great honour and pleasant surprise. It feels like it was only yesterday when I joined SGAC as a member of the PR & Communications team in late 2011. Since then, it has been a great experience and an absolute pleasure to work with a group of such highly motivated and like-minded people from around the world. These individuals are all aiming towards the same direction, and for common goals. For me, SGAC has grown from a group of friendly strangers, to becoming my international space family, and for that, I am grateful. Together, we can achieve anything, and I look forward to see what the future brings - ExAstris, Scientia!"
From SGAC Chair, Catherine Doldirina:
"I am particularly glad that Reinhard Tlustos is our February Member of the Month! He is one of the SGAC team members who often remains behind the scenes, but nevertheless tirelessly works for the success of the organisation. I hope, with the experience he is gaining through participation in the Mars 2013 project, that he will have plenty of new things to introduce to SGAC. All the best, Reinhard, and keep it up!"
