SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals.

We are proud to present the January 2011 Member of the Month: Muhammad Shafiq (Pakistan), former Regional Coordinator for Asia-Pacific

Muhammad Shafiq (Pakistan) has Bachelor and Master degrees in Space Science and is a doctoral researcher at the University of Innsbruck in Austria. His research interests include climate change, remote sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) applications in glaciology & hydrology. He was the moderator of the Climate Working Group at the Space Generation Congress 2010 in Prague. He worked with "Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission" at Lahore as a research scientist for several years. He is a member of the Association of Computing Machinery, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Astronomer's Society in Pakistan, Islamic Crescent Observation Project, and the Pakistan Society of Geographical Information Systems. Within SGAC he  is NPoC for Pakistan and the former RC for Asia Pacific.

Ravit Sachasiri and Pathara Limsira NPoCs of Thailand nominated Shafiq:

"Shafiq has been an excellent Regional Coordinator for the Asia Pacific region and has worked consistently to co-ordinate with NPoCs in their respective countries to promote events and programs on behalf of SGAC. Shafiq assisted me when I was first nominated as NPoC and also advised me on how SGAC may assist the NPoCs in event organisation. Shafiq kept himself up-to-date with all the NPoCs and their activities and volunteered a lot of his time to assist. I believe that Shafiq is a model SGAC member and has been a good leader for the Asia-Pacific region." Ravit Sachasiri (Thailand)

"My first contact with Shafiq happened when I was selected to be the NPoC of Thailand. Ever since then he has been a wonderful supporter. For example, he kindly edited and guided me to prepare my presentation for APRSAF last year. And this is just one example. I am convinced that there are countless examples of his contribution to the development of SGAC through the years from his position of Regional Coordinator. I would therefore like to honor his significant contribution by nominating him for being member of the month in January." Pathara Limsira (Thailand)

And here is our MoM January reaction:
“I am pleased to hear about my nomination for the prestigious recognition as 'Member of the Month' by the Space Generation Advisory Council. SGAC is a fantastic team of people working for the bringing the benefits of space science and technology to the people by involving the young generation (the space generation). My term as Regional Coordinator of Asia Pacific has ended recently, but I will keep volunteering with SGAC in some other role. The SGAC is a great example of a multicultural organisation, where members come from different countries, religions and customs and are committed to work for space awareness and outreach activities around the globe. I am happy to be part of the Space Generation.”
